Roller Coaster

Last week was a roller coaster week with our cat. Whiskers had to go in Monday for a biopsy in her mouth. While the vet was performing the biopsy, one of her molars just fell out because the tissue in her mouth was so deteriorated. Dr. Brier told us that she was almost positive that Whiskers has cancer because of the state of the tissue. Jack googled it and everything we read about cats and mouth cancer matched with what she's gone through. I cried and tried to not think about it too much.

We got Whiskers 13 years ago. She's really a good cat - perhaps too good. That's why we didn't realize she was not feeling good until it was so far along. Whiskers - unlike many cats - is a people cat. Since the first day we got her she has loved to get up in your lap and she'll sit and purr non-stop. I call it her motor - always going. After all this time it was strange to think about not having Whiskers around.

Then Friday Dr. Brier called with the good news - no cancer! She was pleasantly surprised as were we. Whiskers does have a chronic disease that will require treatment the rest of her life with steroids and antibiotics, but it is something that can be treated. We were so thankful to get the news. Whiskers got her first steroid shot Friday and loved it - NOT! - but we can tell she's feeling better already. A great way for the week to end.
