Sunday at Prison

Sunday was a special treat for me. We had the opportunity to go to the Louisiana Correctional Institute for Women (LCIW) for worship services. The idea was to take some of the kids and let them lead parts of the worship. When we first put out the word about this, we didn't have many parents who were willing to let their kids go to a prison. But before the deadline, we had around 15 kids signed up to go with 11 actually making it Sunday. The guys did a great job. They read scriptures and two of them gave talks. The women really responded to these kids. In fact, they were so excited to have the kids there that we had a full chapel with some standing outside.

The best part of the day was just being in worship with this group. We sang a lot of songs about heaven and going to a better place. You could hear the longing in their voices. Afterwards a few of the women came up and outside of complimenting the kids, the conversion was about going to heaven. It made me stop and think about how good my life is and how because of that, I don't always have that deep longing for heaven.

I've felt pulled lately to being involved in the weekly Bible classes that our church family does at LCIW. This past Sunday has made me realize how little of a sacrifice it would be and how much of a blessing. It was truly a great day!
