A couple of weeks ago was our trip to St Louis for the Dave Matthews Band concert. It was a wonderful trip! We got to St Louis early in the afternoon on Friday. After checking in to the Renaissance Grand Hotel, we ate a late lunch and decided to take a little walk downtown. Since it was raining I didn't take my good camera, but we did have umbrellas. We weren't far from the hotel when the rain started falling harder and the wind was picking up. Jack wanted to keep walking - even when the tornado sirens were going off and there was lightening. I finally convinced him to duck into a Starbucks where we rode it out while enjoy a cup of coffee.
After drying off we were ready for our night at the Fabulous Fox Theater where we saw the Broadway Touring production of Mama Mia. The Fox Theater really is fabulous. The interior is very ornate with plenty of dark wood carvings, velvet material and just an overall classy feel about it. Mama Mia was wonderful. A good start to the weekend.
The next morning we walked to the St Louis Bread Company and had a nutritious breakfast....well a delicious breakfast at least. Afterwards we walked down to the Arch. You know that no matter how often you go, you can't go to St Louis without going up in the Arch. After our top of the world trip, we went to the museum in the "basement." There haven't been many changes to the museum over the years, but we still enjoyed walking through it. From there we walked down to Lacledes Landing and then back to the hotel. One thing we like about staying downtown is being able to walk to so many places. We walked to lunch and then spent a lazy afternoon.
We had already decided we would eat supper at the downtown Charlie Gittos. This is a place that we have eaten at on several of our trips to St Louis and we always enjoy it. We timed it just right and only had about a 15 minute wait. After stuffing our selves with great Italian food, we walked over to the new Busch Stadium for the big show.
The opening band was The Black Crowes - not a pleasant experience. But then DMB took the stage and the next 3 hours or so were great! They put on such a great show - high energy, fun times. Jack even liked it and I think is becoming a Dave Fan. Who knows - we may end up going to a DMB concert every summer. I think that could become our new tradition.
Sunday was a travel day with wonderful weather. The highlight of the day was the phone call from Bekah. I always enjoy St Louis and this trip was no exception. All in all it was a great trip!
